The Lawrence Model Railroad Club (LMRC) mission is: “Educating people about the rail industry through the great hobby of model railroading.”
In order to fulfill this mission, our goal is to:
- Educate the public about the historical significance of railroading in the development and growth of the transportation corridor from Kansas City to Topeka Kansas.
- Focus on transportation of goods and people, local industries, including historical significant industries and structures between Kansas City and Topeka that may no longer exist. Industries planned include storage and distribution of agricultural products (grain, fertilizer, and farm implements), lumber, fuels, livestock, and others. Passenger stations envisioned include Union Station in Kansas City, the Santa Fe and Union Pacific depots in Lawrence, and the Santa Fe and Overland Station depots in Topeka.
- Include modeling of the Kansas River Valley and other natural environment features between Kansas City and Topeka.
- The model railroad will be developed to include the use of interactive features to maximize the educational benefits to the viewer while ensuring viewing enjoyment for all ages.
- And, develop educational seminars and electronic media that covers railroad history through current operations in the development of NE Kansas. All to be made available to the public.
The LMRC no longer has a home to fulfill the mission as stated above. Therefore, we seek donations to find a new home and fund the build of this great future project and to ensure sustainability for future generations to enjoy.
Our club goal is to raise $50,000.00 by the end of December 2027.
All donations will be earmarked in support of the above mission.The LMRC is a 501(c)(3) Qualified Public Charity, incorporated as a Kansas non-profit charitable organization. Thus, donations to the LRMC may be tax deductible.
